About Me

My photo
I am a family, portrait, wedding and lifestyle photographer. The process of making people comfortable with the camera is just as much of a passion for me as is capturing the moment. It is important to me to make the photo session experience a memorable one as well. I know it's a generic statement but I am passionate about life and the urgency to document the moments as they unfold. Take time to invest in the days of your lives. Call me--I can help! I've created a "book of days" gallery on my website: www.mbgpics.com where I do that for my own life. Hopefully it showcases who I am as a person as well as as a photographer.

new year's deep thoughts

watching kids grow in photographs is an excellent way to accept just how fast time flies. the boys and i played in the yard today: well, they played and i toted around my camera...just like i always do. it was just a beautiful day-sunny with skies of dark azure that i have only come to know here in colorado. the boys were playing on their sleds wishing for snow. i watched them and watched them and just reflected on how fast the time has passed. they are almost 5 and almost 3. amazing. i can still remember sitting in that very yard crying because we just couldn't manage to get pregnant. then i recall photos of baby aaron in my arms in the summer sun, and baby casey in my belly. seems like just the other day i was complaining of something related to having a 2-year-old and a new baby.

now our days have changed to two brothers zooming around in the backyard with their treasured plastic toy trucks from target, zipping down the little slide auntie shelley and uncle tim bought for aaron's second birthday (three years ago!). these are the days to remember.

i grabbed the camera and started shooting with a large depth of field and trying different shutter speeds and ways to work with the light. the boys both have such beautiful eyes so i tried a couple of shots to showcase them. and, for a few short minutes they were actually cooperative.

finally-their interest in being photographed all but disappeared which is not unusual for my poor boys who are constantly staring at a camera. i resorted to my favorite source of bribery--chocolate! so i will end this post of reflective thoughts with a fun one--aaron showing off his well-earned reward for all that posing! (casey ate his way too fast to be photographed--that boy is just like his momma--he LOVES candy!)

happy new year one and all. and if you stopped by to read this--please leave me a comment. i treasure the thought that these posts are visited and enjoyed.

MB - I love this post and the thoughts around the passing of time. I am already feeling that strange time-warp and my little guy isn't even here yet. Your boys are beautiful. I wish you all the best for 2009. Thank you for the gifts you have given to me this year. Blessings to you!

Loved reading this part of your blog...like you, the days are busy and time is too short, so I have missed some of your work on SmugMug lately as well as your blog. I loved catching up, if only just a little. How are you enjoying the 70-200 2.8? I was considering it, but I tried it in the store and I think it will just be too heavy for me to get much use out of. Now that you are actually doing professional shoots you should get lots of opportunity to use it.Love the 50mm 1.4...that I have and use quite a bit! Happy 2009 for you and all your family!
